Arts Quarter Collective
About the AQC
While the five buildings of the arts quarter bring together space and resources for theatre, dance, music, and art, it’s the students of the AQC and other U of M students who find ways to blend their different disciplines to, in their words, “fuel artistic possibility and creation through art.”
The AQC seeks to build relationships among campus artists and advocates for interdisciplinary works through its annual fall event and other activities. “[We] work toward facilitating communication among all the arts departments,” says formerAQC president Ben Rasmussen.
Former AQC vice president Elliot Durko Lynch describes the student group as a “shaping force for creating a community that desires an interdisciplinary and rounded art experience on campus.” It provides opportunities “for people to meet other people to experience just how far you can get into an idea.”
The AQC also seeks to support student professional development. It recently sponsored a grant-writing workshop by Springboard for the Arts and maintains a listserv that keeps subscribers informed about all kinds of arts events and opportunities.
Through membership in the AQC, you get opportunities to connect and collaborate with other artists, explore ideas, and round out your experience at the U of M. “The connections people find in the AQC are long running and strong,” says Lynch.” The connections I’ve made with other artists and administrators are even stronger. And they will last beyond our experience at this university.”
